Sadly people aren’t waking up fast enough. I’ve yet to face this issue directly and having stopped watching mainstream media for years, the internet has become my main source of information. If that was suddenly denied to me would I just stop using it? It’s not as if they don’t already know everything about me but it’s the principle that’s at stake. I think it would be more doable in somewhere like the UK where I would probably be able to seek out likeminded people nearby. But where I live, I am completely isolated and such people are hard if not impossible to find.
It's not too hard to meet like-minded folk over here. But I've found that those who are trustworthy & without ulterior motive are few & far between. Those on the same section of the journey as me are scattered around the country.
I've also not watched telly for years. But yes, we can't avoid being online, because 'they' have made sure of that. We just need to try & stay as secure as we can when we are on here. Making the effort to give big brother minimal data involves not being lazy. So when you hear "I've got nothing to hide" you know you have a lot of explaining to do [that's if you think it's worth wasting your breath of course].
As you say, it's the principle. But too many individuals don't care about that. As long as they have nice & comfy convenient & quick options ... they're OK, & sod the bigger picture [I'm alright Jack].
I have an online security expert coming on the podcast soon David. They're rather good on mobile phones, browsers, search engines, Linux etc. Please let me know if there's anything you'd like me to ask them 👍️
Nice to hear from you! Regarding you online security expert, I've watched numerous videos put out be Rob Braxman on YT and although he really seems to know his stuff, none of his videos have realistic advice that the average person could follow. All of this videos call for a degoogled phone which must then be very carefully setup without falling into the tiniest trap and once set up, one wrong move could compromise the entire phone. Maybe that's the only way to achieve true privacy but perhaps there are different levels which less resemble crossing a minefield which, although might offer less protection, might still make a difference to the average person.
It's absolutely ridiculous that we can't message people here on chat without providing our ID. I've had exactly the same thing happen to me. 😠
It's a bloody disgrace Dawny. We are but toys to them
